Safety Tips
Night Riding
- Use clear eye protection and keep it clean and free of scratches.
- Wait a few minutes after leaving a bright area before riding away in
order to allow your eyes time to adjust.
- Avoid bright light sources as you ride, look to one side of
streetlights, signs or headlights. For example as a car approaches, shift
your vision from the headlights to the white line along the edge of your
lane.
- Wear your best protective gear at night; statistics show night time
accidents are more common than day time.
- Add reflectors or extra taillight to your motorcycle.
- For additional light, you can follow another vehicle at night. If you
see their headlights bounce, you can get an idea of where potholes might
be. If you do this, increase your following distance to four seconds.
- Allow more space between you and other vehicles at night for braking.
- Purchase a headlight and taillight modulator to increase your visibility. Check with local authorities for legality
