2006 TRX450ER Starting Procedure
When starting the TRX450ER, it is extremely important to NOT open the
throttle. Opening the throttle, even slightly, can cause the engine to
kickback. This can damage the starter clutch and other related components.
To correctly start the engine, push the starter button without opening the
throttle. If the engine is cold, use the choke to richen the fuel mixture
do not open the throttle. The idle speed should be set to 1700 rpm; this will
help ensure the engine starts easily.
It's also important that the transmission oil level is correct. Low oil level
can damage the starter clutch and starter reduction gears and other
transmission parts. Verify the oil level after running the engine for 3-5
minutes. Or, completely drain the transmission oil and refill with 680 cc
(0.72 US quart). Do not overfill.
Refer to your Owner's Manual for additional information on starting in warmer
or colder weather.
